Why look for a Colorscape alternative

First sweep of Colorscape, the most veteran app in this segment: on the stores since 2015. It turns photos into line-art or colour-by-number pages, and more recently also generates images from text with AI (DALL-E 3 engine on Android) that get fed through the same converter. The Perkins School for the Blind, a real educational institution, recommends it for classroom activities with low-vision students. It carries 7,500 App Store ratings at 4.7 out of 5, though on Google Play the score drops to just over 3. Its purchase list is the most tangled in the segment, with two different prices under the same "10 AI Image generations" label, confirmed literally by two independent agents. There are complaints about undismissable ads and crashes on Android.

What its own users repeat in the August 17, 2026 sweep:

  • Tangled purchase list, with the same "10 AI Image generations" label at two different prices ($1.99 and $3.99), confirmed literally by two independent agents (strong theme)
  • Google Play rating (just over 3 out of 5) notably worse than the App Store's (4.7 out of 5), with complaints about undismissable ads and crashes (strong theme)
  • One review documents a $5 charge for a minor editing tweak (present theme)

What the internet says about each alternative

Colorpop 3.9/5 · From $5

The listing keeps moving almost every week: iOS shipped version 2.64.05 six days before this sweep with a new themed pack, thirteen Odyssey-style templates, and Apple still holds 4.8 across 742K ratings. The in-app purchase list confirms the real price runs from $3.99 a week on limited-time offers up to $69.99 for the top pass, a range that neither the official site nor the $5 reference price capture. Watching an ad to unlock a colour remains the complaint that repeats most.

Where it wins: The sheet is generated and coloured inside the same app, with brushes, textures and effects, which is what makes it playable for a child Where it slips: You have to watch an ad video before drawings, colour packs and tools become available, and ads pop up while colouring

Colorify 3.1/5 · From $9.99

First sweep of Colorify, by Turkey's YOYA Mobile. Turns a user photo into AI line art in a Simple, Detailed or Pixel Art style, and generates colour-by-number pages from that same photo. Launched 29 July 2025, so it's been alive for just over a year, with updates every few weeks and the latest one three days before this sweep. Third-party reviews from a teacher and a grandparent confirm real use in class and with grandkids. The entry price is $9.99 a week, confirmed literally by two independent agents against the App Store listing, with a $39.99 annual plan and a $49.99 Pro+ tier. The in-app purchase list repeats the $9.99 figure across different items, and there are complaints about renewals that catch users by surprise and daily usage caps despite paying.

Where it wins: Generates line art from a user photo in several styles, plus colour-by-number page generation from that same photo Where it slips: The in-app purchase list repeats the $9.99 figure across several different items (weekly, unlock, credit pack), confirmed literally by two independent agents
