In short: “AI music” is not a buying category. An app that composes a song does not replace one that separates drums and bass, and neither replaces a vocal synthesiser or mastering tool. Start with the output: a complete song, background track, singing voice, separated stems or final master. Then filter by export and licence. Only after that do quality and price comparisons mean anything.
his guide organises the market for musicians, video makers, podcasters and campaign teams who do not want to memorise thirty brands. It does not publish a universal winner because there is none: Suno may be the best purchase for turning lyrics into a song, Moises for practising or separating tracks and Ozone for finishing a mix in the studio. Calling all three “music apps” is accurate and does not help anyone decide.
The choosing funnel
Serchai only admits products with an AI function documented by an official source into this vertical. A conventional music app cannot enter the ranking. It then splits a query into five substitutable decisions. Go directly to complete AI songs, background music for content, AI singing voices, stem separation or AI mastering.
1. First: what file should exist at the end?
A complete song
You want to write one sentence or paste lyrics and receive melody, vocals, arrangement and mix. Suno, Eleven Music, Google Flow Music (formerly Producer.ai), Mureka, Boomy and Udio compete here. The deciding difference is not merely which sounds best: it is whether you can edit sections, provide audio reference, download the file and release the final take.
One exclusion is easy for superficial rankings to hide: Udio can create and edit, but in the state verified on 1 August 2026, audio, video and stem downloads remain disabled. It can work for exploration inside the platform. It cannot complete a job requiring a delivered file. Serchai removes it in that case even if its generation quality is high.
Background music for video, podcasts, games or ads
“Make a song” matters less here than fitting the edit. Beatoven accepts video or podcast input to compose around it and grants a licence per download. Mubert and SOUNDRAW suit content volume. AIVA offers more compositional control. Stable Audio works with audio references. Loudly and Soundful prioritise speed and catalogues.
The practical question is specific: do you need an exact duration, picture sync, client delivery or reuse after cancellation? The answer changes the ranking. “Royalty-free” does not mean “anything goes” either: many licences cover the finished video while prohibiting redistribution of the standalone track or registration as your own.
A voice that sings
There are two different jobs. If you already recorded a guide and want another timbre, compare Kits AI, Audimee and Musicfy: they are voice converters. If you want to write notes and lyrics and direct a performance from scratch, compare ACE Studio, Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro and VOCALOID6.
ACE Studio combines editing, harmonies, instruments and cloning in a subscription. Synthesizer V prioritises offline work and a one-time purchase from $99 with one voice. VOCALOID6, from $225, includes 25 voices and has the broadest ecosystem and plugin support. Do not choose from one polished demo: test language, phonemes, the exact voicebank’s commercial terms and how much editing a difficult phrase needs.
Separate vocals, drums, bass or other instruments
For practice, karaoke or chord extraction, Moises has the easiest workflow. For batches or web separation, Fadr and LALAL.AI are fast. For repairing a mix through spectral editing, RipX DAW goes deeper. Ultimate Vocal Remover is free and local, fitting privacy or “do not upload my audio” requirements.
Stem count matters. “Separate voice and instrumental” means two outputs. “I need vocals, drums, bass, piano and guitars” requires multistem separation. Also distinguish preview from download: some free plans let you hear a result but reserve the complete or high-quality file for payment.
Master a finished mix
LANDR, eMastered and Masterchannel are web services that take a mix and return a master. RoEx Automix accepts stems and mixes as well as masters. iZotope Ozone 12 is the local workflow with more control and a one-time price. FL Cloud Mastering sits inside FL Studio. BandLab Mastering is excluded because BandLab says that feature uses engineer-designed presets rather than AI. CloudBounce is also excluded because its independent service closed.
Never judge mastering from the vendor demo. Use the same mix, match perceived loudness and listen on headphones, speakers and a phone.
If one result wins only because it is louder, you compared volume rather than mastering.
2. Licence is a feature, not a footnote
Write the destination before paying. These four cases are not equivalent:
The fourth is the one most often confused: “commercial use” is not music-distribution permission, and the distributor adds content rules of its own.
We also ask what happens after cancellation. Suno and Audimee document continuity for outputs created while a rights-granting plan was active. Elsewhere, music may remain covered only inside the published project, or contractual language may vary by plan. Every review shows its verification date because a 2024 licence cannot decide a 2026 release.
A contractual licence does not itself guarantee that an entirely generated work receives exclusive copyright protection in every country. If you plan to register a catalogue, sell rights or imitate an identifiable voice, get project-specific legal review. A tool may allow use while leaving ownership or third-party personality rights unresolved.
3. Run a test that does not favour the demo
Reduce the market to three options meeting hard requirements and give them the same brief.
For songs: use identical lyrics, genre, approximate length and two mandatory musical elements. Count attempts to a publishable take, check whether one phrase can be repaired without regenerating everything, and record delivered files.
For background music: use the same 30- or 60-second video. Check whether music follows scene changes, leaves room for speech and supports a variation without re-editing the video.
For vocals: use the same MIDI melody and lyrics, including hard consonants, long notes and a register jump. Measure editing time and listen for artefacts. One attractive isolated note does not prove a complete performance.
For separation: use the same excerpt with cymbals, bass and reverb. Listen to every stem in isolation and to their sum. Vocal residue in the instrumental and watery cymbals reveal more than a clean homepage example.
For mastering: use the same mix with -6 dB headroom, one reference and loudness-matched playback. Check transients, bass, sibilance and distortion as well as loudness.
Real cost is the subscription plus extra credits, voices or downloads and the time to the first usable version. A cheap app needing twenty generations can cost more than a pricier one that gets close and lets you repair the result.
4. Decision shortcut
- Complete song without producing: start with Suno, Eleven Music and Mureka.
- Music fitted to video or podcast: compare Beatoven, Mubert and SOUNDRAW.
- Write a voice note by note: compare ACE Studio, Synthesizer V and VOCALOID6.
- Transform an existing sung take: compare Kits AI, Audimee and Musicfy.
- Separate many instruments: compare Moises, Fadr and RipX. Add Ultimate Vocal Remover when audio must stay local.
- Fast master: compare LANDR, eMastered and Masterchannel.
- Mix stems as well as master: look at RoEx.
- Local DAW control: look at Ozone for mastering and Synthesizer V or VOCALOID6 for vocals.
This shortcut does not replace the query. The homepage recommender turns requirements such as “my lyrics”, “Spotify”, “30 seconds”, “many instruments”, “offline” or “for a client” into testable filters and shows three options when three honest matches exist. When only one or two qualify, it says so: padding a podium with products that fail the job is worse than admitting the catalogue lacks three answers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best app for creating AI songs?
For general speed, Suno is the starting point. Eleven Music stands out when you need API access or deeper editing, and Mureka is another complete-song option. The winner changes when the song must be downloaded, distributed or built around your own lyrics.
Can I sell AI-created music?
It depends on the plan, product and destination. Verify commercial use, music distribution, export and rights after cancellation. The platform licence and copyright protection are separate questions.
Is there a free, local option for stem separation?
Yes. Ultimate Vocal Remover is open source and processes on your computer. In return, you install models, provide compute time and select the right configuration. A web service is simpler for occasional work.
Can an AI mastering app fix a bad mix?
Not reliably. It can balance tone, dynamics and level, but cannot unmask a buried vocal or repair an arrangement. If stems remain available, fix the mix first. RoEx is the exception in this set because it also works from stems.
The steps, in short
Separate the music job you need to solve
Distinguish creating a song, producing background music, building a singing voice, separating stems or mastering.
Write down the final use before comparing
Clarify whether this is a private test, monetised video, client commission or release on streaming platforms.
Eliminate by licence, export and workflow
Remove any option that cannot deliver the file, stems or rights the project requires.
Test finalists with identical material
Compare three results on one real task and measure quality, control, time and cost to reach a usable version.
