Our verdict

Our verdict · By Serchai

Gorgias is the reference helpdesk for Shopify stores, with an AI Agent that doesn't just answer: it issues refunds and order edits directly from the ticket, something that on other e-commerce platforms (WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento) stays read-only. From $10 a month for the helpdesk, with the AI agent billed separately from $30 that scales fast with interaction volume. In July 2026 it launched AI Agent 3.0, with speed and resolution improvements the company itself documents.

Best for: Shopify stores with ticket volume wanting the AI agent to resolve and act, not just answer.

The internet picture · agentic sweepAugust 10, 2026

What the internet says

The agent still resolves tickets for real and some customers have been paying for up to five years, but the shop window has not changed: the entry plan card still loads with the AI toggle on, so the headline you see reads $40 while the helpdesk subscription is $10. This week the entry price was checked again, digit by digit, straight from the JSON-LD and the card's own pricing data, and it has not moved. The same contradiction between the pricing page, which says every AI interaction is also billed as a ticket, and the official blog, which says the opposite, is still there. Support remains the most cited complaint of the last weeks, with nothing corroborated new enough to shift the picture.

What the web repeats in favour

  • The AI agent issues refunds and order edits straight from the ticket rather than just answering, something several separate merchants keep confirming on the Shopify App Store
  • Public, itemised pricing, with the two halves of the bill printed separately on each card and a calculator by tickets and interactions, checked again digit by digit in the page's JSON-LD
  • There is a seven-day free trial with full access and no card required, still more than much of the niche offers
  • Customers three to five years into paying and still there, with a new review this week describing it as the single most valuable app in their Shopify stack

What the web repeats against

  • Support remains the most repeated complaint of the last weeks: there is no live chat for customers and email replies take up to 48 hours, and this sweep finds no sign that it has changed
  • The shop window still shows a composed figure: the entry plan card loads with the AI toggle on, so the headline reads $40 while the helpdesk subscription is $10. Checked again this week in the JSON-LD and the card's own data, with no change
  • Split billing between helpdesk and AI interactions makes the bill hard to anticipate, and overage runs at $1.50 per interaction with no declared ceiling. One merchant said on July 31 they will not switch the AI on because of it, since at that rate the bill would run into four figures a month
  • Its own sources still contradict each other on whether an AI interaction is also billed as a ticket: the pricing page still says it is, the official blog still says you are not charged for both. Checked again word for word this week, with neither page corrected
  • Setting up and training the agent has a learning curve, and this sweep's reviews repeat it: one merchant reports on August 5 that the AI still misses precise instructions despite recent improvements

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • Top-tier Shopify integration: refunds and order edits from the ticket
  • Public, detailed pricing, with an exact calculator by tickets and AI interactions
  • High rating with meaningful review volume (4.2/5 over 613 on the Shopify App Store)

Cons

  • The AI Agent is not available outside Shopify: on other platforms the integration is read-only
  • Split billing (helpdesk + AI per interaction) makes cost spike with volume

TLDR: Gorgias is the reference helpdesk for Shopify stores, with an AI Agent that doesn’t just answer: it issues refunds and order edits directly from the ticket, something that on other e-commerce platforms (WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento) stays read-only. From $40 a month, with billing split between tickets and AI interactions that scales fast with volume. In July 2026 it launched AI Agent 3.0, with speed and resolution improvements the company itself documents.

What Gorgias is and how it works

Gorgias unifies email, chat, social media, phone and SMS in one inbox, with an AI Agent that automates up to 60% of conversations, per the company’s own figures. What sets it apart from a generic chatbot is that it acts: inside a Shopify store it can look up the order, process a refund or edit the shipment directly from the ticket, with no human agent needing to open another tab.

It is a Shopify Premier Partner for customer experience at the Enterprise level, and that relationship shows in the product: order, refund and edit integration is complete on Shopify, while on WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Magento the store connects only in read-only mode and the AI Agent is not available, per an independent July 2026 review.

What using it is like day to day

In July 2026 Gorgias launched AI Agent 3.0, a rebuilt architecture with new features: “Gaia,” an AI configuration copilot, “Skills” to precisely define what the agent does for each type of request, and MCP connection to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. The company itself claims 45% faster response times and 10% more end-to-end resolution. These are its own figures, not third-party audited, but consistent with a high rating with real volume: 4.2 out of 5 over 613 reviews on the Shopify App Store, and 4.6 out of 5 on G2 and Capterra.

Setting up the AI Agent well (which Skills to enable, what to hand off to a human) has its learning curve, and several reviews mention the live chat widget can lag during high-traffic moments.

Pricing and plans

You need to understand how Gorgias charges before looking at any figure, because the price comes in two parts that add up: the helpdesk on one side and the AI agent’s interactions on the other.

The helpdesk part starts on the Starter plan at $10 a month, rising to $50 on Basic, $300 on Pro and $750 on Advanced with annual billing ($60, $360 and $900 monthly if you pay month to month). The AI part is charged per resolved conversation: $0.90 on an annual contract and $1.00 on a monthly one. The site also publishes the combined total for each tier, which is what you actually pay: $77 on Basic, $471 on Pro and $1,227 on Advanced.

That is the part that matters for deciding: the $10 entry figure is real but misleading on its own, because it excludes the automation, which is precisely what you hire Gorgias for. The cost depends on how many conversations the agent resolves, so it climbs with volume rather than with headcount. For a store with few tickets it comes out very cheap. For one with thousands, do the maths before signing.

Who it is for (and who it is not for)

It fits Shopify stores with ticket volume wanting the AI agent to resolve and take real action, not just answer FAQs.

It does not fit stores not on Shopify: there, the AI Agent doesn’t work and integration stays limited to looking up data, not acting on it. Nor is it the cheapest option for anyone needing just a basic helpdesk with no AI.

Alternatives to Gorgias

Tidio covers similar automated customer support ground, with a different pricing and configuration approach. Flair AI solves a complementary problem in the same store: product photography, not customer support.

Verdict

Gorgias shows an AI Agent can go beyond answering: issuing refunds and order edits from the ticket itself is exactly what separates real automation from a decorative chatbot, and the AI Agent 3.0 launch confirms product investment stays active.

What’s worth being clear on is that this capability depends on being on Shopify, and that the pricing, though transparent, scales fast with ticket and AI interaction volume. For anyone not selling on Shopify, the honest comparison isn’t with Gorgias.
